At SIH we are extremely proud of our Early Years section of the school. SIH’s Early Years has received international recognition for the quality of care it offers children. We are the first whole school with nursery in Thailand to be awarded the 'Quality Counts' mark at Platinum level, the highest possible level by the National Day Nurseries Association, (NDNA) and only the second Early Years/Nursery section.
The curriculum we follow in Early years is a combination of the UK National Curriculum Early Years Foundation stage (EYFS) and the Reggio Emilia approach. The Early Years foundation Stage focuses on 7 key areas of learning and development all of which are inter-connected. These key areas of focus help ignite children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and helps build their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive. The Reggio Emilia approach encourages children to learn through play, inquiry and their own exploration. and puts them in control of their own learning environment. This combined curriculum provides students at SIH with a holistic program which prepares the children not only to develop academic competencies but social skills as well.
Learning through Play
At SIH we have adopted the learning through play and inquiry method. Play teaches children life skills, enriches their development and helps them to make sense of the world around them. Learning through play in our school includes:
Sand and water play, Mud play, Outdoor play, Art, Stories, Role play, Music and songs, Sensory play and much more.
All of these activities enable children to develop their physical, social, emotional, cognitive, creative, communication and language skills. Children are guided by our teachers to enable opportunities for learning through play. Our teachers encourage development such as helping children to express themselves, to problem solve, to negotiate and acquire important social skills such as taking turns and making friends.
