Last Wednesday, the students, staff and parents of Southern International School gathered to celebrate Songkran. The festivities kicked off with a fantastic show featuring dancing, singing and even a live student band. After the show, the traditional water pouring ceremony took place, allowing everyone to pour water over a Buddha statue and seek blessings for the coming year.
Following the ceremony, the students began building sand Buddhas. The creativity and skill on display were remarkable, with intricate details, towering structures, and vibrant, colorful flowers.
Next up were the games, which included traditional Thai activities. Teachers, students, and parents participated enthusiastically, cheering each other on as they competed for glory.
As the day progressed and the sun beat down, everyone worked up an appetite. Luckily, there was no shortage of delicious food and drinks to enjoy and the SIH parent committee deserves a huge thank you for arranging it all.
However, the highlight of the day was undoubtedly the giant water fight. Water guns, buckets and hoses were used with abandon as everyone soaked each other from head to toe in a wild, joyous celebration. There was even a visit from the Fire Brigade for an added splash.
At the end of the day, everyone was exhausted but happy, with memories that would last a lifetime. On behalf of the Southern International School community, we wish everyone a Happy Songkran, no matter where you may be. May the new year bring you joy, happiness and prosperity!
